Funeral services for Bessie May Hutchinson Bullard will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Martin Funeral Chapel with Rev. A. L. Martin officiating.
Burial will be in the Bellview Cemetery in Roger Mills County. Services are under the direction of Martin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bullard was born August 25, 1902 in Snakey Bend across the south Canadian River from Grand, county seat of Old Day County, and died June 22, 1988 in the Cheyenne Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.
Her parents were Henry and Hester McQuigg Hutchinson.
Her mother died before Bessie was a year old.
She was raised by her grandparents, Henry Kingston and Sarah Lucinda Evans McQuigg and her aunt, Mary McQuigg Ellis, who was the only "mother" she ever knew.
She was married to Hester Lee "Heck" Bullard in April of 1921 and they had three children, Alvis "T-Bone" Bullard, Nina "Jiggs" Krober and Sylvia "Thing" Moad.
Mrs. Bullard lived in the Bend until 1956 when she moved to Cheyenne due to ill health. She lived with her daughter, Sylvia, and Joe Frank Moad for several years, then bought her home where she was living at the time of her death.
She was a member of White Shrine and Eastern Star serving as an officer in both orders.
She was a charter member of the A.B.C. and Bellview H. D. Clubs and an honorary member of Cheyenne Psoriasis Club.
She loved sports and never missed a basketball or softball game if she could possibly be there.
She was chosen as Star Farmer of the Year of Cheyenne F.F.A. Chapter and awarded a plaque.
One of her pet endeavors was the Old Day County Picnic held each year in July at Old Grand. She received special recognition and was presented a plaque as the oldest person born and raised in that area.
She participated in all Old Settlers affairs and dressed in her mother's ornate gown made in the 1880's. Everyone knew she was in the parade due to her old time "cattle call" yell.
She was proud of Oklahoma and interested in this area.
She was preceded in death by her son, Alvis "T-Bone" in November of 1974; her husband, Heck; her parents; two brothers, John and Frank Hutchinson; one sister, Lorna; and two granddaughters, Donna May and Cynthia Ann Moad.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jiggs and Dean Krober and Sylvia and Joe Frank Moad of Cheyenne; her daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Bullard of Carlsbad, California; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
