Billy Jack Hicks
October 14, 1930 ~ May 16, 2010

Funeral services for Billy Jack Hicks will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the Church of Christ in Hugo with Mr. Steve Harbison officiating, Wiley Copeland reading the eulogy. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. with burial following in A.L. Stevens Cemetery in Clayton, Oklahoma. Billy Jack Hicks passed away on May 16, 2010, in Hugo, OK at the age of 79.

Billy Jack Hicks was born October 14, 1930, in Albion, OK, the son of Ernest and Victoria (Fondren) Hicks. Billy was raised in Albion, OK. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and he received 2 Bronze Stars, National Defense Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation and the United Nations Service Medal. After service Billy married Georgia Mae Anderson on May 30, 1954, in the County Line Christ's Church in Leflore County. He graduated from OSU and taught for one year as a science teacher at Ablion School. Billy went to work for the Oklahoma State Health Dept. as a health inspector; he retired in 1987 after 33 years of service as the administrator to seven County Health Depts. Those seven counties include, Choctaw, Pushmataha, Pittsburg, McCurtain, Bryan, Latimer, and LeFlore County. Billy was on the Oklahoma State Board of Health for several years, the Rotary Club, and the Jaycees. Billy enjoyed ranching, hunting and camping. He was a member of the 4th & Jackson Church of Christ.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Georgia Mae Hicks and one sister, Lera Francis Gilbert.

Billy is survived by one daughter, Pamela Hicks Meredith of Hugo, OK; one son, Jack Dewayne Hicks and wife Lori of Hugo, OK; five grandchildren, Kaci McGee and husband, Calvin of Durant, OK, Justin Meredith of McAlester, OK, Samantha Copeland and husband Clark, Erin Hicks and Jaclyn Hicks all of Hugo, OK; one great-grandchild, Ethan Andrew McGee of Durant, OK and three nieces and one nephew.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.
