Bessie Ellen Mayo, age 85, of Macomb, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 in Oklahoma City.

She was born December 29, 1933 in Oswego, Kansas to Joseph and Opal (Woods) Johnston.

Bessie grew up in Kansas. She lived in Yukon and later settled in Macomb.

She married Wilburn “Will” Mayo on February 25, 1971 in Gainesville, Texas.

Bessie was an excellent cook and cooked for Little Giant Pump Company, retiring in the 1980’s. She worked for a while for a boarding home. Bessie also was a hairdresser for many years.

She was a member of Faith Abundant Church for many years where she played the piano, guitar and organ.

Bessie was known for singing silly songs. She loved to read, cook, crochet and go to church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Joretta Glenn; 2 sons in law, Roy Glenn and Albert Ragland; 2 daughters in law, Alice Luschen and Janice Luschen; grandson, Roger Wayne Powers; great grandchild, Michael Quarrels; and all of her brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Willa Ragland of Tecumseh; son, Don Luschen of Jones; 12 grandchildren, Sherri, Jamie, Joseph, April, Donnie, Melisha, Deana, Becky, David, Amanda, Tori and Vicki; many great grandchildren, many great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended children, Gayland and Sandra Cannon; and her cat, Andy.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gayland Cannon of Faith Abundant Church officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
