Mary Steph Lamb took her next step in life and went home to be with her Lord and Savior forever, on Wednesday, December 25, 2019. Mary was born December 12, 1919 to Joseph and Eva (Knight) Steph, she had turned 100 just a couple of weeks ago. Mary attended Washington School in Shawnee, a fact she was very proud of, and she graduated in 1937 from Shawnee High School. Mary worked at Kresses in downtown Shawnee until she went to work for the City of Shawnee in the water department in 1952 and retired from there in 1984. She was proud of her service to the city for thirty-two years. She married Loyce Lamb in Jan. 1961, he preceded her in death in 1976. Mary was a member of the Shawnee First Baptist Church for over 58 years, joining in 1961.

Mary was known to us as Auntie “M” a name her nephew Roger gave her and also “Iron Mary” affectionately given by her co-workers. We will miss Auntie M’s stories and goodies she made every Christmas, but we know she is happy to be home and reunited with all of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Eva; her husband, L.M.; a sister, Pauline; brother-in-law J.A. “Jiggs” Brooks; nephews Roger and James Brooks; and many cousins from her Steph and Knight side of her families.

Mary is survived by a sister, Helen Brooks; nieces, Linda Rakett, Sherrie and husband Tim Parsons, and Kathie Brooks. Mary had many great nieces and nephews and also great great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Saturday, December 28 at 2:00 PM at Tecumseh Cemetery with Phil Thompson officiating. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
