Ray Hawthorne, Jr. slipped into the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 22, 2006, while his family held him. He was born on September 2, 1933, in Sasakwa, OK to John and Pearl Hawthorne. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty (BJ) Starkey, in 1951. To this union, four children were born.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife of the home, his son, Bobby Ray and his wife, Marie of Houston TX, his daughter, Teresa Hatfield of Midwest City OK, his daughter, Holly and her husband, Kevin Fields, of Houston TX, his son, Todd Ray and his wife Jayme, of Anna, TX, nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Each one considered Ray his or her Hero. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Hawthorne and his wife, Jan, of San Diego CA and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of OU Medical Center and the home health care nurses for their compassionate care. The family gratefully acknowledges Dr. Kai Lau for his devotion to Ray. Ray and Dr. Lau developed a special relationship and each fought valiantly.
Ray's life will be celebrated in a memorial service held in Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service, 305 S. Sooner Rd, Midwest City on Tuesday, September 26 at 2:00 PM with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, OK.
