Ruby Mae Curtis, age 93 of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 in Shawnee.

She was born November 20, 1927 to Columbus O. “Dodge” and Effie Mae (Haggard) Burk in Oil Center, Oklahoma, but after her mother’s death 10 weeks later, she was raised by her oldest sister and brother-in-law, Minnie and Kirk Duncan.

Ruby attended grade school in Vanoss, Oklahoma and graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1945.

She married Roy William Curtis on September 5, 1946 in Meeker, OK and he preceded her in death on July 9, 2015.

Ruby began her career outside the home at the OBU Bookstore and later excelled in retail clothing sales at Abbie’s in Duncan, OK and at the Unique Shop in Shawnee, OK.

She was a born again Christian and an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Shawnee, OK for 65 years.

Ruby greatly enjoyed travelling to lakes in Oklahoma to camp and fish. She loved Bluegrass music and going to festivals.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and all of her siblings.

Ruby is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Wayne Knight of Shawnee, OK and Jana and Rusty England of Duncan, OK; 1 son and daughter in law, Burky and Delinda Curtis of Shawnee, OK; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.

Ruby’s family would like to thank the staff at Primrose Retirement Community and Belfair of Shawnee for the excellent care and compassion that was shown to her and her family.

The family respectfully asks that attendees please wear a mask. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2020 and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22 at Resthaven Memorial Park Pavilion in Shawnee, OK, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

The family has designated donations to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1451 East 45th Street, Shawnee, OK 74804 as appropriate for memorials.
