Former Shawnee resident Jack E. Aitken passed away Sunday February 14. He was 90. Born February 12, 1931, in Erie, KS to Pembrooke and Lela (Garrett) Aitken, Jack was a graduate of Parsons High School and attended Parsons Junior College before enlisting in the Air Force. On September 16, 1951, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Wiggins, and by 1955, they had made a home in Ponca City, OK, where they would reside for nearly thirty years. While in Ponca, Jack worked as a mineral lease analyst for Continental Oil Company. After his retirement, Jack and Evelyn made their home in Shawnee where both were active volunteers for the Shawnee Medical Center Hospital and Oklahoma Blood Institute. He loved to play softball. He loved to talk about a driving trip to Alaska, the river cruises, a Canadian Rail Tour, and many other travels that he and Evelyn enjoyed. Jack loved to grow tomatoes. But the driving force in his life was his love for his wife and family.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; his parents, and two brothers. He is survived by his sister Mary Sasse and husband Paul; children, Connie Mainers and husband Tom, Rhonda Haussler, Aaron Aitken and wife Shoshana; grandchildren Erin and Luis Rodriguez, Alison and Charles Baker, Larissa Mainers, Jana and Tim Halpin, Kerry and Jeff Harding, Loren and Brian Moore, Sarah Aitken, Shawn Aitken, and Levi Aitken; great grandchildren Ethan Rodriguez, Sophia Rodriguez, Louisa Baker, Jack Baker, James Halpin, Lainey Halpin, Aubrey Harding, Haven Harding, and Liam Harding; several nieces and nephews, other friends and family.

Out of abundance of love and caution, there will be no in-person service held. Friends and family may view a video tribute on our website.
