HOWARD WAYLAND ADAMS

22 May 1940 - 29 Apr 2017

Howard Wayland Adams, 76, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017. He was born on May 22, 1940 in Matoy, OK to Estelle (Smith) and O’Brien Adams and grew up in Shawnee, OK. Following graduation from Shawnee High School in 1958, he served in the U.S. Army until 1961. He began his career with the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 1965 and retired as assistant chief in 1997. He believed faith in God, service to country, and love of family were the foundations to living a joyful life. He enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Howard is predeceased by his wife Norma J. (Lynam) Adams, his parents, his brother O’Brien Adams, and his sisters Doris Curly, Iris Belshe, and Debbie Hoffman. He is survived by his children Scott Adams (Spiro, OK), Shelley and her husband Philip Koons (Tuttle, OK), Shannon Adams (San Antonio, TX), and Joely Adams (Tuttle, OK); twelve grandchildren: Sterling and his wife Erin Koons, Tanner Koons, Kelsey Duepner, Cooper Koons, Carly Koons, Scott Duepner, Molly Koons, Cali Taylor, Kendall Duepner, Kinsey Taylor, Marshall Koons, and Chloe Taylor; one great-grandchild Silas Koons; his brother Doug Adams & wife Sharon, sister Becky Adams, and numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog Dixie.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle, OK. Mass will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Mustang, OK. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Disabled American Veterans, Department of Oklahoma, 2311 N. Central Ave., Suite 1000B, Oklahoma City, OK 73105 or to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma http://www.regionalfoodbank.org/.
