RUTH VICKERY
1928 - 2016


Ruth Smith Vickery, 88, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in Shawnee.
She was born February 23, 1928 to William and Lunie Martin Smith in Haleyville, Alabama.
Ruth was raised in Haleyville, Alabama and attended Haleyville Schools. She moved to Oklahoma in 1967.
She married Clyde Derain Vickery on April 22, 1944 in Haleyville, Alabama and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1986.
Ruth was baptized in 1967 at Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
She was a devoted and loving, wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed taking care of her home and family. Ruth also worked outside the home at Margaret’s Café and Daylight Donuts as a cook.
She was an amazing gardener and cook. She grew flowers and had a vegetable garden every summer. Ruth loved to go fishing and enjoyed quilting. She made many beautiful quilts for her great-grandchildren. Ruth loved having her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren come to visit. Her family was the focal point of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Vickery; grandsons, Donnie Vickery, Jr. and Dale Smithson; her parents, William and Lunie Smith and her brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish her memories are daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Bobby Dancer of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jack and Shirley Vickery of Noble, Oklahoma and Donnie, Sr. and Brenda Vickery of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren; thirty five great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 and continue through service time.
Family gathering to meet with friends and family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 at Cooper Funeral Home.
Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Dawkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
