MARJORIE SHEARER
1921 - 1999


Former Shawnee resident Marjorie Barnhart Shearer died Wednesday in Dodge City, Kansas. She was 78.
She was born April 1, 1921, in Shawnee to Sam Norton Jr. and E. Jane Barnhart.
She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1937, and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. She graduated from Oklahoma University in 1941 with a degree in business and accounting.
She married Louis Abner Brown in 1941, and he preceded her in death.
She married R. Harold Shearer on March 27, 1952 in Shawnee. After their marriage, they lived in Wichita until moving to Dodge City in 1964. They owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store in Dodge City for many years.
Harold Shearer preceded her in death on May 30, 1996.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City, and the Atheneum Club of Dodge City. She was also a member of Phi Beta Psi Chapter Zeta Lambda of Dodge City.
Also preceded in death by one brother, Sam Norton III.
Surviving are two sons, John Shearer of Manhattan, Kansas; Jack Shearer of Dodge City, Kansas; and a daughter, Melanie Schulze of New Brunsfels, Texas.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City with the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating.
A private burial will be held at Scroggins Memorial Mausoleum in Dodge City.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
