SHIRLEY RUTH MARTIN
1938 - 2004


Shawnee resident Shirley Ruth Wilson Martin, 66, died Tuesday, November 30, at her home.
She was born May 20, 1938, in Skaggs City to Roy Derwood Wilson and Mary Mae Weaver Wilson.
She attended grade school in the Pottawatomie County area and graduated in 1956 from Earlsboro High School.
She and her husband owned and operated Martin Service Station in Shawnee from 1966 to 1973 and operated Martin's Truck Stop in Sayre from 1973 to 1975. She also worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1996.
On May 23, 1956, she married Billy Joe Martin in Shawnee. They were married for thirty one years before his death April 15, 1987.
She also was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Mae {Weaver} Wilson Harmon; stepfather, Walter Fred Harmon; father, Roy Derwood Wilson; sister, Ruby Lee Swofford; half-sister, Dorothy Aileen Harmon Barnard; brothers, J. D. Wilson and Jerry Lynn Wilson; half-brother, Robert Lee Weaver; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Lawrence Harris.
Survivors include daughter, LaDawna Sue Martin-Harris of Shawnee; granddaughter, Karlea Dannette Martin of Shawnee; one nephew, Marlin M. Swofford of McAlester; niece, Catherine Weaver Sharp; aunt, Pauline Wiley of Holdenville; and several other friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating.
Walker Funeral Service is directing arrangements.
