RUTH ELLA JOHNSTON
1904 - 2000


Former Seminole area resident Ruth Ella Johnston, 96, Temple, Texas died Friday in Temple.
She was born March 26, 1904, in Gas City, Allen County, Kansas to Orrin Ometa Mitchem and Ella Adaline Hendricks.
At the age of 3, she moved with her family to Bartlesville where she was raised and attended the local schools.
She was married July 27, 1920, in Bartlesville to Henry William Johnston, who preceded her in death November 18, 1957. They moved to Seminole in 1927 and were long-time owners of a grocery store near the Sinclair Plant 13, south of Seminole.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Myrtle Alice Grove, Grace Irene Mitchem, Beulah Glen Digney, Mable Inez Metzinger and three brothers, Howard Hendricks Mitchem, Thomas Orrin Mitchem and Wilbur Wayne Mitchem.
Survivors include five children, Dorothy Ella Johnston of the home in Temple, Texas; James Orrin Johnston and Caroline of Martin, South Dakota; Joseph Henry Johnston of Dodge City, Kansas; Glen Edwin Johnston of Morgan's Point, Texas; and Rosmary Teresa Gray {Mrs. Horace Benton Gray, Jr.} of Houston, Texas; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Seminole at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Basil Keenan officiating.
Burial will follow next to her husband at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Sheffeid Funeral Home of Temple, Texas and Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
