STEVEN THOMAS GARNER
1934 - 2007


Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Walker Funeral Service Chapel, Shawnee, for Steven Thomas "Boots" Garner, 73, long time resident of Shawnee who died Sunday, November 11, 2007, at his residence. Jody DeFehr will officiate.
He was born October 3, 1934, in Durant to Stephen and Gertrude Thomas Garner.
He graduated from Durant High School in 1952 as well as made an honorary member of the Shawnee class of 1952. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1956.
While attending O. U., he became a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
He married Mary Jean Lee June 22, 1956, in Ponca City. They were married 50 years before she preceded him in death June 6, 2007.
He was a Certified Public Accountant for many years and enjoyed providing financial guidance to his clients.
He served in the U. S. Army as an Artillery man.
He and his wife were members of United Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school to both children and adults for many years.
He was a member of the Rotary Club of Shawnee.
He served on the Hospital Board at Unity North and was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants and served as a Trustee of the W. P. Wood Charitable Trust.
O.U. football, basketball and the Annual Fat Stock Show trips were especially enjoyed.
His family has lost a loving father and husband.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, a brother, Dale Garner, and a sister- in- law, Barbara Lee.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Garner and Woody Garner of Shawnee; daughter Melanie and her husband, Jeff DeFehr, of Weatherford; brother, Bill Garner of Durant; brother-in-law, Frank Lee of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, William and Jeanie Garner of San Diego, California; and Will, Ross and Zoie DeFehr of Weatherford.
Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church to help fund local ministries and outreach services, 330 North Beard, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
Burial will be at 9: 30 a. m. Saturday in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Walker Funeral Services, Shawnee, are handling the arrangements.
