DR. GARY L. CHANCELLOR
1950 - 2004


Shawnee resident Dr. Gary L. Chancellor, 54, died Saturday, November 27, in Oklahoma City.
He was born September 15, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, to Dr. H. C. Chancellor and Helen Chancellor Tressler.
Chancellor graduated from high school in McKinney, Texas, and received his bachelor of arts from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He earned a master of arts degree from Sorbonne in Paris, France; a master of arts degree from Schiller College in Heidelberg, Germany; and a Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Mr. Chancellor was a professor of French and German languages and literatures. He taught at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas, from 1980 to 1987 and Oklahoma Baptist University from 1987 to this semester.
He was an active member of University Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and worked for many years with the youth group.
He married Mary Harrell in 1973.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Chancellor, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Evan Chancellor and Hannah Harder of Oklahoma City; parents, Dr. H.C. and Sandy Chancellor of Plano, Texas; and Don and Helen Tressler of North Little Rock, Arkansas; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Cliff Jenkins of Springdale, Arkansas; stepbrothers, Sam Tressler and wife Penny of San Antonio, Texas; and Paul Tressler and wife Marilou of Royse City, Texas; stepsister, Elaine Bixby and husband David of North Little Rock, Arkansas; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
Memorials may be made to University Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 2515 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804.
Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at University Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bob Searl officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Walker Funeral Service is directing arrangements.
