JAMES CARSON CANNON
1929 - 1999


Shawnee resident James Carson Cannon died Tuesday at a local hospital after a long illness. He was 69.
Mr. Cannon was born November 15, 1929, in Beaumont, Texas, to James Francis and Annie Odell Miller Cannon.
He married Patricia Ann Kirkpatrick Cannon on November 19, 1950.
He graduated from Aldine High School and obtained an associate degree after two years of college.
He was a manager for Skandia Tile Co. of Shawnee and then a maintenance supervisor at Shawnee Medical Center until his retirement in 1991.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a senior master sergeant in 1974. He received two Air Force commendation medals and many assignments as an aircraft mechanic and superintendent.
He was also a Little League baseball coach and built a ball field which was named for him at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Cannon of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Ronald Britt and Cheryl and Buck Newton, all of Shawnee; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Chris Cannon, Shawnee; and Charles and Nita Cannon, Meeker; sister, Billie A. Baum, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Polly Smith and Sue Rodriguez.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Bill Matthews officiating and the Rev. Phil Thompson assisting.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
