ARGEL F. BROWN
1919 - 1997


Argel F. Brown died Tuesday, September 23, at his Shawnee residence. He was 77.
He was born October 5, 1919, in Dale, the son of Fletcher and Julia Dennis Brown.
He attended Shawnee schools and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1938. He worked at Standard Food Market until entering the U. S. Army in 1943. He served with the 455th AAA Battery D, Third Army, European Theater of Operations, the most highly decorated anti-aircraft unit in the theater, from July 6, 1944, to October 1945.
After the war he worked at George's Bakery and also worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a jet engine mechanic from 1966 until his retirement. He was a member of University Baptist Church.
He married Gladys Beal on July 21, 1940, and she preceded him in death in 1987.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Sharon Brown, Shawnee; four grandchildren, Leslie Temple, Steve Brown, Lori Jones, Cheryl Brown, all of Shawnee;' seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Also preceding him in death were his parents.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. Bill Matthews will officiate, assisted by Phil Thompson.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
