BETTY JO BRANSCUM
1933 - 1998


Betty Jo Carpenter Branscum, 65, a lifelong resident of the Shawnee area, died Saturday at her home.
She was born January 13, 1933.
She grew up in the Gaddy area and attended Valley Grove and Bethel Schools.
Prior to her retirement in 1980, she worked at the Sylvania plant and for Sears and Roebuck.
She was a member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years.
She established two scholarships: one at the church to provide disadvantaged young people an opportunity to attend Falls Creek, and a music scholarship at Bethel Schools.
Memorials may be made to either scholarship fund.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H. L. and Bertha Carpenter; two brothers, Lee and Paul Carpenter; and five sisters, Clara Belle, Roberta, and Lovetta Carpenter, Grace Stone and Letta Anne Akins.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton "Skip" Bransum, Bethel Acres; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Doug Jones, Claremore; two grandchildren, Joy and Andrew Jones, Claremore; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Oneda Cole, Shawnee; and Jackie and Bill Madole, Bethel Acres; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Orval and Lilian Carpenter, Afton; and Ira Ray and Una Carpenter, Shawnee; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and many friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Bates officiating.
Burial will be in Blackburn Chapel Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
