Memorial services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m.
Born February 20, 1922 in Dale, Oklahoma to Jim and Maggie Jewell Braswell Blagg. Grew up in Gravelly, Arkansas and left home at the age of 14 to work in the Conservation Corp Camps. He fought fires and installed the sewer system at Yosemite, planted trees in South Dakota and Nebraska. Enlisted in the US Navy October 15, 1942 following his father's death. He served overseas in WW II as did his older brother, JD, who died in France. Chuck served on the USS Antias and also flew in missions as a gunner patrolling for German submarines. He fought in
Casablanca, Africa; San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Trinidad. He was
honorably discharged Oct. 1945.
He survived the Dust Bowl, the Depression, WW II and eventually ended up in the Oil Fields as a communications technician and retired from Getty/Texaco in 1986. While raising his family he spent a lot of time chasing wild horses and donkeys for BLM. He loved camping out and fishing, a favorite family camping spot was Balch Park. He helped coach his kids baseball games and was very proud of all of them. His favorite time was spent having a backyard BBQ with all the family and friends over and of course had to include guitars and singing with his sisters. He also enjoyed going to the Indian Casinos and "playing" a little. Poker nights were frequent, but his most favorite game was Aggravation but he would only play if he could use the red marbles! Right up until the end he would ask, do I hear the dice, let's play marbles! He never lost his sense of humor and quick wit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Louise. They met through
their love of music and he loved to watch her play her fiddle. He is also survived by 4 sisters and their spouses: his twin, Pearl and Jim Hinesley of Kingman, AZ, Fran Blagg Williams, Patsy and Ray Rush, all of
Bakersfield, and Bonnie and Bob Reynolds of Palm Desert; 5 children: Joey and his wife, Linda Blagg, Bakersfield, Connie and husband, Rick Clagg, Tehachapi, Robert (Bobby) of Tupman, Robin Stenberg of Colorado, and Becky and husband, Mack Edwards of Colorado;
