William O. "Bill" Barton
1921 - 2002
PAMPA - William O. "Bill" Barton, 80, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, in
Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral
Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Don Larkin, retired minister,
officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Pilgrim's Rest
Cemetery in Newalla, Okla., with military rites by Army personnel
from Fort Sill, Okla.
Mr. Barton was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Stella, Okla. He was a graduate
of McLoud High School in McLoud, Okla., and attended Montana State
University. He was an Army veteran serving in World War II, participating
in five major European Theater campaigns.
He had been a Pampa resident since 1957. He worked for Lane-Wells
Co., Cabot Corp. and IRI International, retiring in 1983. He married
Thelma Summers on March 25, 1943, in Harrah, Okla.
He later married Geneva Dalton on March 22, 1997, in Amarillo. He was
a lifetime member of National Rifle Association and past president of
Texas Panhandlers Travel Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife on May 5, 1996. He was
also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Barton of Amarillo and
Randal Barton of Piedmont, Okla.; a daughter, Joanie Lovelace of
Mustang, Okla.; a stepson, Robert Dalton of San Angelo; a stepdaughter,
Pat Winkleblack of Pampa; two brothers, Russell Barton of Newalla
and Jim Barton of Newcastle, Okla.; a sister, Mildred Capps of McLoud;
five grandchildren, Sheila Barton of Amarillo, and Jammie Lovelace,
Tammy Lovelace, Kristen Barton and Melissa Barton, all of Mustang;
seven stepgrandchildren, Paula Winkleblack, Tommy Winkleblack and
Shona Rose, all of Amarillo, Mandy Mitchell of Panama City,Fla.,
and Robert Dalton Jr., Robyn Swift and Ryan Dalton, all of
San Angelo; and four step great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Pampa Senior Citizens, 500 W.
Francis St., Pampa, TX 79065.
