MARVIN J. ARMSTRONG
1933 - 2016


Marvin J. Armstrong, 82, of Shawnee, Oklahoma was called home to be with his heavenly father Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Shawnee.
He was born December 16, 1933 to Debs Richard and Julia Downey Armstrong in Ravia, Oklahoma on the banks of the Washita River and raised in the Madill area.
Marvin proudly served 8 years in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1961 when he was honorably discharged. He served as a Military Police Officer and was stationed in Japan, Casa Blanca, England and the Carolinas. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War.
He married Wanda Louise Burgess on March 6, 1954 in Madill, Oklahoma and to this union four children were born. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2009.
Although Marvin wasn’t one to elaborate on his accomplishments he succeeded in making a very wonderful life for a lot of people. Marvin and Wanda started their life together in Madill, Oklahoma where he owned and operated two gas stations. After a period of time he closed those and went to work for Terminix. He then bought his own franchise of Gregory Pest Control in Shawnee and owned and operated it for 33 years. Upon retirement Marvin sold the business to his son, Gary and continued to come in occasionally and work. They were members of the Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee. Marvin’s first true love was his wife, Wanda but his second was fishing. He was an avid fisherman and loved Lake Texhoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Armstrong, his parents, Debs and Julia Armstrong and two sisters, Lucille Armstrong and Pauline Armstrong Stowe.
Marvin is survived by daughter, Marla Plunkett; 3 sons, Richard Armstrong, Greg Armstrong, and Gary and Kelly Armstrong; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Brown, Kim Plunkett, Darrell Mehring, II and wife Hailey, Jordan Armstrong, and Shanna Timmons; 3 great-grandchildren, Aiden Mehring, Jakob Blair, Ronnie Oller, Hailey Oller and Josie Timmons; 2 brothers-in-law, Pete and Pauline Burgess and J.T. Baker; and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and those that embraced as a family.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2016 and continue through service time.
Family gathering to meet with friends and family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Cooper Funeral Home.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Craig officiating.
Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
