FRED JACK AKIN
1931 - 2016


Fred Jack Akin, age 84, of Shawnee passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Shawnee.
He was born July 23, 1931 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Thomas E. and Anna LeeThomas Akin.
At age 16 he and his family moved to Shawnee, where he has been a resident ever since.
He graduated with the Shawnee Class of 1949 and married Colleen Jones in 1956.
He retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 28 years.
Fred was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
He enjoyed swap meets and woodworking. Fred loved visiting with friends and was a proud member of the “Carl’s, Jr. Coffee Club.”
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Ted Akin and brothers, Jim Akin and Jerry Akin.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Colleen Akin of the home; daughter, DeAnna and Chuck Thomas of Tulsa; son, Dean Akin of Shawnee; grandchildren, Matt Thomas, Lindsey Thomas, Spencer Thomas and Andrew McKinney; three great granddaughters; nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2016 and continue until service time. Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Cooper Funeral Home.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at Cooper Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
