Peggy Lee Hays

Peggy Hays, 81, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed from this life Wednesday, October 30, 2019 in Shawnee.

She was born February 3, 1938 at the family home in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Doyle and Velma (Gharrett) Lee.

Peggy was raised in Holdenville and Shawnee. She graduated with the class of 1956 from Shawnee High School. She has lived in the Tecumseh area most of her adult life.

She married Larry Joe Hays on June 15, 1956 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Peggy worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Oklahoma Well Sample Service for many years. However, her most passionate job was being a wife, mom and grandma.

In her early marriage she was a member of Oklahoma Avenue Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school director. She was also an active member of Sharon Baptist Church for the past 22 years. Peggy was a wonderful cook, enjoyed cross stitch and crochet. Peggy loved all animals. She was known to take in a stray horse, dog or cat. She loved to feed and watch her birds, bunnies and squirrels. She loved traveling with her husband Larry in their travel trailer and taking trips to Colorado and Branson, Missouri. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her family was the love of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Velma Lee.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of over 63 years, Larry Hays of the home; 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Keith and Sheri Hays of Tecumseh, OK and Kevin and Charlene Hays of Tecumseh, OK; 6 grandchildren, Christina, Dustin, Jenna, Dylan, Kelsey and Logan; 2 great-grandchildren, Harper and Colter; 1 sister, Joann and Odell Morris of Shawnee, OK; and many loving friends and extended family.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2019 and continue through service time, with family gathering to greet friends and family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Tecumseh under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
