Richard Lee Martin, Sr

Richard Lee, Martin, 85, of Bethel Acres passed from this life Saturday, November 19, 2022 at his home.

He was born January 27, 1937 to Howard and Thelma (Hamblin) Martin in Los Angeles, California.

Richard was raised in Columbus, Kansas where he attended school. He graduated with the class of 1954 from Columbus Kansas High School. Richard later earned his Associate degree from Pittsburgh State Teachers College. He lived in Oklahoma City until his retirement and then moved to Bethel Acres in 1989 where he has lived since.

He married Patricia Qualls in June 26, 1959 in Columbus, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2010.

Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957 and was honorably discharged. In 1961 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1978.

He was a career U.S. Air Force Electronics Technician until he retired from the military. In 1999 he retired from his second career with the City of Oklahoma City from the water treatment plant.

Richard was a simple man and enjoyed watching his shows on T.V.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Martin; son, Richard Martin II; his parents, Howard and Thelma Martin; and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter, Genigh Martin of Bethel Acres, OK; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Cindy Jordan; and other extended family and friends.

Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee with Pastor Keith Ward, Taproot Church, Shawnee, OK officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
