JAMES (GLEN) AUSTIN AMSEY

11 Jul 1927 - 10 Dec 2009

A private graveside service was held in Calvary Cemetery, Shawnee, Oklahoma, for James (Glen) Austin Amsey on Saturday, December 12, 2009. Arrangements were by Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

James was born to William S. And Pearl L. (King) Amsey on July 11, 1927, in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William (Buddy) Amsey; and one sister, Doris L. Neilan.

Elizabeth Ann Leslie of Houston, Texas, is a surviving sister.

James served in the Merchant Marines, trained in the Coast Guard and a stint in the Army at the last of World War II. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, with honorable discharges from all.

After completing his tour in the services for his country, he was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company for 30 years.

James lived in Enid, Oklahoma, after his retirement from Phillips. In 1998, he married Wynona Broomfield Gregory and bought a home in Shawnee, Oklahoma, which they have enjoyed for the last 10 years. Here Jim really learned what family is, acquiring five stepchildren and spouses plus 14 grandchildren and three greats. The little ones call him "Grandpa Jim" and he loved them dearly. That kind of love adds years to one's life.

He has come to the end of the trail here and is now rejoicing with his Savior. We'll meet you there, dearest. We love you!!!
