Services for Lewis D. Winters, 89, Ada, are 2 p.m. Friday at Southwest Church of Christ. Floyd Kaiser and Bobby Johns will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery . Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery .

Mr. Winters died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at his home. He was born Nov. 23, 1920, at Byng to T.W. "Dude" and Agnes Harris Winters.

He attended grade school at Byng and Oakman and graduated from Byng High School in 1940. He attended Wetumka Junior College and majored in shop and construction.

He married Pauline Pendergrass at Oakman on Sept. 5, 1941. She died Dec. 26, 2004.

Mr. and Mrs. Winters moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was working at Sheppard Field. They also lived in Gainesville and Paris, Texas, Wichita, Kan., McCook, Neb., Chickasha and Okmulgee where he worked building Army and Navy bases. He was inducted into the Navy July 1943. After finishing boot camp at San Diego, Calif., he went aboard the U.S.S. Gunston Hall and later was stationed at Los Alamitos Naval Air Base until Dec. 25, 1945. He and Pauline remained in Southern California where he became a building contractor in 1951. Mr. Winters was a member of Southwest Church of Christ and had worked with the prison ministry at Stringtown, Okla., for several years.

Survivors include six grandchildren, Wayne and Pattie Winters, Ada, Leona and Steve Fahey, California, Dale Winters, California, Bobby and Rhonda Winters, Ada, Barry and Dena Winters, Texas, and Charlie and Melissa Winters, Alabama; 11 great-grandchildren, Michael Winters, Ada, Cody and Brands Winters, Ada, David Winters, Ada, Naomi Winters, California, Brittni Fahey, California, Chelsea Winters, Sapulpa, Savannah Winters, Texas, Jakie Nolan, Sapulpa, Chase Winters, Ada, Ian Nolan, Ada, and Gunner Winters, Texas; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jaylee Avants, Ada, Jaylee Winters, Ada, Kaidence and Shea Neese, Sapulpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline Winters, and three sons, Lewis A.Winters, Bobby Dee Winters and Kenny Lee Winters.

Bearers will be his grandsons, Wayne Winters, Dale Winters, Bobby Winters, Barry Winters, Charlie Winters, Michael Winters, Cody Winters, and David Winters. Honorary bearers will be Eugene Cannon, Pete Duncan, Reese Scott, Kenneth Winters, Jim Myers, and John Purcell.
