Celebration of life services for Dorothy Mae Skeen Scates, 98, of Ada will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Ada, OK. Pastors Dean Stone and David Sutton will be officiating with burial to follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Criswell’s on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM.

Mrs. Scates passed away September 18th, 2023 at Mercy Hospital of Ada, OK.

Dorothy or “Grandma” to all was born July 24, 1925 in St. Vrain, New Mexico to Carl and Lennie Skeen. She was a homemaker, an extraordinary grandma, an amazing cook that makes the best cinnamon toast in town according to her grandchildren, and an advocate to all puppies.

Survivors include her son Jewell Scates and wife Carolyn of Conway, AR; daughter Carol Hayden of the home; two sisters Margaret Ann Baker of Springfield, IL and Gay Carol Moulin of Wellston, OK and one brother Buddy Skeen and wife Linda of Waco, TX; Grandchildren Demechi Lipke of Mayflower, AR; Shelly Williams of Ada, OK; Michana Jackson of Blanchard, OK; Damon Scates of Conway, AR; Jim Dean of Fort Smith, AR; John Dean of Roland, OK; Jay Scates of McLoud, OK; Darren Scates of Conway, AR; 13 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jewell “Buck” Scates, daughter Phyllis Jean Dean, and her great grandson Cody Dean Bolin and several brothers and sisters..
