Graveside services for John Charles Plumlee, 83, of Carrollton TX, formerly of Ada, OK, are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Rosedale Cemetery, Pastor Steve Wilburn will officiate.
Mr. Plumlee passed away on April 5, 2020.
John was born on November 23, 1936 to Hobert and Grace Plumlee in Ada, OK. After graduating from Ada High School in 1954, he went to East Central University where he received a Bachelors of Industrial Arts, a Masters in Education, and a Bachelors in Accounting. He also received many certifications from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
After graduation he went to work for Folding Carrier Corporation in Oklahoma City. He designed shopping carts, and was always proud to point out his work whenever he went to the grocery store. Due to his love of working with children, he decided to become a teacher. He returned to Ada, and taught at Glenwood Elementary School and Ada High School. He later became principal at Irving Elementary School and Washington Elementary School. After retiring from education, he put his accounting degree to use and worked for Horne and Company. He also served his country in the National Guard and Army Reserve for 22 years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer-Three.
He was involved with many civic originations in Ada, and received several awards. Among them were, the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, and the Golden Tiger Award from East Central University. He served as the President of the Oklahoma Principal’s Association, and was a board member of Ada Camp Fire Girls.
In 1957 he met Bobbie Neal when he jumped into her car as she was draggin’ Main Street in Ada. They wed in 1958, and had two children, Randy and Jonna (Pebbles).
John was predeceased by his parents Hobert and Grace Plumlee, his in-laws Robert and Ama Neal, his son Randy Plumlee, and his sister Pat Plumlee Tippit. He is survived by his wife Bobbie Neal Plumlee, his daughter Jonna (Pebbles) Plumlee and her husband Steve Erickson, his sister Geneva Wilburn, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends and students.
