Graveside services for Imogene Owens, 84, Ada, are 10 a.m. Monday at Rosedale Cemetery. Her sons-in-law will officiate.
Mrs. Owens died Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at her home. She was born July 8, 1933, to Roy V. and Eula Northcutt Leonard at Ada. She was a long time member of the Pentecostal Holiness church.
She and Glen Owens were married April 7, 1953, at Ada.
Survivors include her husband, Glen, of the home; two daughters, Lynn McNeill and husband Bart, Ada, and Becky Handley and husband Rice, Edmond; grandchildren, Jennifer Greenburgh and husband Mike, Franklin, TN, Joshua Handley, Ventura, CA, Rebecca DeVane and husband Drew, Winter Park, FL, Allyson McElroy and husband Michael, Ada, and Heather Niemyer and husband Gavin, Colorado Springs, CO; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Don Leonard.
Imogene was an example of a praying wife, mama and grandma. She brought her daughters up to respect themselves and others and to always be truthful. But, above all, she instilled in the family the Biblical principles she held so close to her heart.
While she was never the sort to be in front of a crowd, she instead remained in the background spending hours in prayer daily for the needs of others. The pure evidence of this was the callouses she developed on her knees from praying.
The love she had for her family followed closely behind her love of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Very few times in her life was she not at home when Glen came from work and Lynn and Becky came from school.
As the family grew and grandkids and great-grandkids were born that love just grew deeper. ‘Meemse’ as she was known, was ALWAYS making sure that each of those babies were well fed. If they needed anything at all she would make sure the need was fulfilled.
When time passed and Alzheimer’s began to rear its ugly head, something wonderful happened … She became even more happy, pleasant and excited to be around her family. She never knew she had the disease and never questioned why all the changes were taking place. She just enjoyed the journey.
We are going to miss her. There will be an empty spot in our lives and hearts. However, we also have the blessed hope and assurance that we will be with her and all those gone before when we meet her in Heaven.
