Leer (McCown) Kelly

Leer Kelly, 84, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Chuck Neal will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kelly passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at a local hospital. She was born January 31, 1933 at Ada to Velvin and Ruby Hanning McCown. She attended Horace Mann grade school and graduated from high school at Denison, TX. She also graduated from East Central University with a degree in Special Education.

She married Clarence Kelly April 16, 1965. He preceded her in death July 31, 1992. Mrs. Kelly was a Special Education Teacher, having taught at McCall’s Chapel, Strother, Byng and Ada schools. She was a longtime member of the First Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years, and a member of the Professional Oklahoma Educators Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Bray and husband Delton and Lillie Ella Kelly; a niece, Debra Peltier and husband Hallie; her grandchildren, Makayla and husband Michael Ball, Matthew Bray, Megan Peltier and Logan Peltier; and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Conroe McCown, Clyde McCown and Gene McCown; and two sisters, Ruby Neal and Lillie Scroggins.

Bearers will be John Chaney, Brian Chaney, Hallie Peltier, Delton Bray, Michael Ball and Logan Peltier.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Ada Special Olympics, c/o Ada Public Schools, P. O. Box 1359, Ada, OK 74821.
