Services for James Byers, 77, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Southwest Church of Christ, Brian Lewis and David Dirrim will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Byers passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by his wife and children after battling a brain tumor.

He was born October 6, 1946 to D. I. “Doc” and Ora Mae Payne Byers in Ada, Oklahoma.

James graduated from Latta High School in 1964 and joined the U. S. Army soon after. He spent most of his time in service in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1967 with the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifle medals.

James and Glinda Coulson dated in high school and married on May 24, 1966. They were married for 57 years and raised 3 children.

James worked 30 years at the cement plant, retiring in 2008 from Holcim.

He served as a Deacon at Southwest Church of Christ for several years and was active in community outreach. He liked traveling and visited almost all 50 states and many National Parks. He played golf for many years and made his first hole in one a few years ago. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, taking them on trips and attending their events.

James is survived by his wife, Glinda, of the home; his children, Wes Byers (Julie), Jeremy Byers (Marti) and Amy Graham (Kevin); his grandchildren, Autumn and Drew Graham, Eva, Braden and Harper Byers; and his sister, Pat Raymond.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Joyce Walker.

Bearers will be Cody Frye, Tim Hensley, John Eck, James Myers, Mark White and Kevin Graham. Honorary bearers will be Ken Roper, Del Tollett, Bill Hart, Jerry Miller, Morris McGehee and Wade Sumpter.

The family has asked that memorials be made to the Southwest Church of Christ, 505 W. 17th, Ada, OK 74820.
