Nathan Lee Burris

Nathan Lee Burris, 70, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, Rev. David Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Burris died Tuesday, January 26, 2010. He was born May 20, 1939 at Ashland, Oklahoma to David Alexander and Rettia L. Burris. He attended schools in Allen, Allen High School for three years and graduated from Wanette High School. He attended East Central University.

He married Margaret Lois Jackson on June 3, 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Allen. He and his family moved to the Ada area in 1971 from Altus. Mr. Burris was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone for 30 years and later was the owner and operator of Burris Communications from 1991 until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, served on the Byng School Board from 1982 until 1999, had served on the board of the Shawnee District Bell Federal Credit Union for 20 years, and he was a 32nd degree Mason. He served in the National Guard from 1962 until 1965 and with the Army Reserve from 1965 until 1968.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Burris, of the home; his children, Scott Burris, Ada, Keith Burris and wife Sheila, Ada, and Kim Arrington and husband Danny, Ada; five grandchildren, Megan Burris, Tiffany Lofton, Courtney Lofton, Lindsey Lofton and Janelle Burris; one great grandchild, Braxton Hays; a brother, David A. Burris, Beebe, AR; and two sisters, Ruth Ashby, Ada, and Jean Wright, Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David A. and Rettia Burris; sister, Irma Welch; brother, John Burris; and a grandson, Nate Burris.

Bearers will be Danny Coats, Joe Don Jones, Delwayne Johnson, Jared Johnson, Rhyan Petros, and Mike Coats. Honorary bearers will be Pete Presley, Arley Johnson, David Cross, Jerry Christian, Haskell Holland, Wayne Case, former Southwestern Bell co-workers, and the Allen High School Class of 1958.
