Services for Donald Ray Bowers, 80, Ada, are 11 a.m. Monday at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Ken Wolf will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Bowers died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at his home. He was born May 18, 1932, to Everett and Jewel Dew Bowers at Ada. He attended Pecan Grove and Washington Elementary Schools and graduated from Ada High School. He attended East Central University. Mr. Bowers served in the United States Army 88th Search Light Battery from 1953 to 1955 reaching the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He retired as a Captain with the Ada Fire Department in 1984 after a 23 year career. Mr. Bowers was a member of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. He had served as Sunday School Superintendent, on numerous church boards and was on the Ada High School Class of 1950 Reunion Planning Committee.

He and Charlene Jones Bowers were married Aug. 3, 1957, at Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene, of the home; two sons, Derick Bowers and wife Sandra, Ada, and Chad Bowers and wife Marcie, Bixby; a brother, Loyd Bowers, Ardmore; a sister, Neva Jo Stewart and husband Bobby, Connerville; and six grandchildren, Heath Thompson, Austin, Texas, Scotty Bowers, Norman, Brady Bowers, Stillwater, Brooks Thompson, Ada, Brent Bowers, Bixby, and Tori Bowers, Bixby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathryn Cranford; and a granddaughter, Shannon Raye Bowers.

Bearers will be Scotty Bowers, Brent Bowers, Brady Bowers, Charlie Golightly, Heath Thompson, Brooks Thompson and Tori Bowers. Honorary bearers are Bob Tweedy, Norris Lillard, James Mouser, Mike Beller, James Manning, C.L. Wolf and Joe Winton.
