Mrs. Allen died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, in Ada.
Ruby ‘Aunt Ruby’ Ruth Fennell Allen was born Dec. 18, 1924, on Cold Springs Road in Lane, Oklahoma, to George Washington (Shorty) Fennell and Oma Ann Francis Fennell. Mr. Fennell had nine children by his first wife before laying her to rest at Haywood, Oklahoma. Ruby was George and Oma’s sixth child. When Ruby was three a baby boy was born into the family but sadly shortly after his birth, both mother and baby died.
When Ruby was five, Mr. Fennell moved his family to Ada. Being a stone mason, he built many homes as well as laying brick on many buildings on Main Street. Ruby was so proud of these homes and would show them to visitors when they came to Ada. She had many fond memories of her dad doing work on the Chime Tower at Rosedale Cemetery and the Chapel and the old entrance at Rosedale Cemetery.
Growing up without a mother, she often said that she never felt like a child. When her brother introduced her to this good looking 19-year-old, P.H. (Harrison) Allen, she fell in love. At the very grown up age of all most 14, Dr. C.C. Morris married them in his office at First Baptist of Ada on Dec. 17, 1938. Ruby turned 14 the next day. Her daddy was doing the stone work on Dr. Morris’ home on Broadway and Shaw Drive. The servant’s quarters were completed so Dr. Morris gave them the room for the night.
After Ruby and Harrison married, George married again and gave Ruby three half-sisters, Teddy, Ann, and Nell, whom she loved very much.
Ruby and Harrison gave their hearts to Jesus in 1948 and were baptized and became members of the First Free Will Baptist of Ada. They were married 53 years when the love of her life left for his Heavenly home. Together Ruby and Harrison had three girls, Evelyn Sue, Katie, and Kathy. Together they built a business, OK Oil Well Cementing, Inc. and took care of many relatives and friends. Mrs. Allen was a member for over 50 years of the Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Harvie Johnson of Ada; two daughters, Katie Reeves and husband Gene, and Kathy Allen, all of Ada; three sisters, Teddy Williamson and husband Clayton of Hoisington, Kansas, Ann Packard of Mannford, and Nell Bruce and husband Eldon of Nashoba; her grandchildren, Harrison and Michelle Johnson of Choctaw, Jay Johnson of Tulsa, Scot and Marsha Reeves of Stonewall, Shawn Reeves of Center, Sarah Jackson of Perkins, Seth and Darci Reeves, Ruby Tibbs and John Linebarger, Katirina Goodnight and Ricky Ludlow, all of Ada, and Justin Gore of Lexington; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter Evelyn Sue Johnson, and 16 brothers and sisters.
Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Harrison Johnson, Jay Johnson, Scot Reeves, Shawn Reeves, Seth Reeves and Justin Gore, and great-grandsons, Austin Jackson and Harrison Jackson.
Honorary bearers will be her God son Luther Green, Danny Bolin and Roy Allen.
