Gerald Riedt

Gerald Riedt, 94, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery at Hartshorne, Okla., with the Rev. Kevin Boyd, pastor of First Presbyterian Church at McAlester, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mr. Riedt was born in Gowen, Indian Territory, Okla., and had lived in Hartshorne until moving to Amarillo in February 2001. He owned and operated Jerry Riedt Coal Mining Co. and was a partner with his father in a mercantile store.
He was an excellent football player and debater during his time at the University of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and the College of the Ozarks. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Hartshorne. He married Helen McAlpine on July 4, 1935, in Dennison.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald C. Riedt, on May 23, 2001.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Edith Wall of Amarillo and Elaine Frizzell and husband, Mike, of Bethany, Okla.; a son, Harvest Riedt and wife, Evelyn, of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Judy Riedt, Kyle Riedt, Nikki Riedt, Sara Nerbetski, Steven Wall and Carolyn Sneed; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in Mills Funeral Home at Hartshorne.
The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 S. Jefferson, Amarillo, TX 79101; American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell, Amarillo, TX 79109; or to a favorite charity.
