Jewel Wheeler-Hargrave of Kiowa, OK died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at a local nursing home at the age of 94. Jewel was born July 7, 1922 in Willis, TX to James and Rose (Lawson) Gunter. She met and married Chester Wheeler in 1940 in Gilmore, TX. They enjoyed sixty three years of marriage before his death in 2003. In 2004, Jewel was blessed with a second marriage to Edwin Hargrave and enjoyed another twelve years of married life. Jewel owned and operated a beauty shop in Irving, TX. She later became a nurse and then retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was of the United Methodist Church faith. She is survived by husband, Edwin Allen Hargrave; daughters, Sharolyn Poe of Kiowa, Barbara Adams of Euless, TX, Marla Perteet and husband, James of Kiowa and Gayla McGehee of McAlester; daughter-in-law, Janice Dvorak and husband, John of Grand Prairie, TX; Grandchildren: Brian Poe, Anna Hinnity and husband, William, Jamie Adams, Chad Wheeler, David Dvorak and wife, Cami, Jeffrey Perteet, Jamie Osborne, Laci Allen and husband, Tracy and Kami Timmons and husband, Josh; Great Grandchildren: Alex, Hunter, Brittany, John, Zachary, Lexi, Tristyn and Kolben; and other family and friends. Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rose Gunter; husband, Chester Wheeler; son, Marion Lee Wheeler; step-father, William Kiomn; son-in-law, Gene Poe; and, brothers, Johnnie Gunter and Griffin Gunter. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Wednesday evening at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Kiowa United Methodist Church with Rev. James Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Kiowa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Chad Wheeler, Hunter Dykes, Jeff Perteet, Tracy Allen, Josh Timmons and Zachary Osborne.
