Gary was born August 5, 1943, in Mill Creek, to Virgil and Vera (Quinton) Garrison. He was the baby boy of nine brothers and sisters who remained close all their lives. Gary attended Mill Creek schools, participating in sports. After graduation from Mill Creek, he joined the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War from August 5, 1964 through May 7, 1975. He retired from the army, receiving an honorable discharge. After retiring from the army, he became a truck driver for a few years, driving and making his home between Oklahoma and California. After his truck driving years, he settled in McAlester and went to work at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant as a supervisor. He retired from McAAP and we spent our retirement years traveling. On October 7, 1988, Gary wed Shirley Joann (Allen) Laughlin, Gary is survived by his wife, Shirley (Laughlin) Garrison; two sons and daughter-in-law and their families, Robert Laughlin, of Krebs, and David and Kristi Laughlin, of McAlester. One daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Darryl Wagoner of Ashland. Four grandsons and their families, Jason and Davey Travis with Zayden and Haskell of Stillwater, Brandon Travis of Tulsa, Kaleb Wagoner with Kaitlyn and Kaisley of McAlester, and Chance Wagoner with his girlfriend, Misty Alexander. One brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Shannon Garrison, of Shawnee. Two sisters, Faye Rail of Mill Creek and Bessie Coplen of Sulphur. Sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Ray Izard of Elk City and Bill and Alice Allen of Meridian, Indiana. Sister-in-law, Ann Garrison of McCloud and a special friend, Bill Lovett of Krebs. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nolan and Herman Garrison; sisters, Thelma, Velma and Edna; nephew, Roy Dale Coplen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Louis Allen, and most recently a son, Randy Laughlin, who passed away on January 30, 2016. Funeral arrangements are with Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Gary's final resting place in Crowder Cemetery. Pastor James Harris will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Travis, Brandon Travis, Kaleb Wagoner and Chance Wagoner.
