William Dee Wood Sr., 81, of Pittsburg, died Monday, June 13, 2011 in Muskogee. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pittsburg First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Davidson officiating. Burial will be at Pittsburg, Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born March 4, 1930 in Pittsburg, he was the son of Ray L. and Opal (Ellison) Wood. He served in the United States Army. He married Norma Lois Vaughn in Kiowa on June 19, 1954. He worked as a warehouse foreman for Shepherd Field in Wichita Falls, Texas for 23 years. He was a member of the Pittsburg First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Norma of the home; sons, William Dee Wood Jr., of Lawton and Gary Wood of Broken Arrow; grandchildren, Julie Baker, Misty Towles, Jessica Wood and Parker Wood. Three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; brother, John Wood and wife, Pat of Pittsburg; sister, Betty Blessing and husband, George of Savanna; sister-in-law, Bo Wood of Pittsburg and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Ray L. and Opal Wood; brothers, Bobby Gene, Charles, George Wood and Baby Wood and grandson, Christopher Wood. Pallbearers will be Brent Hayes, Phil Huffman, Robert Hicks, Raymond Hicks, Jimmy Wood and Joe Ryan. Honorary pallbearers will be Toolie Ryan, Billy Ellison, Jim Ryan, Jimmy Rice, Duerd Sweetin, Ron Hunt and Larry Griffin.
