James "Jim" Scott DePue of Pittsburg, Oklahoma died Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the age of 62. Jim was born May 12, 1955 in Union City, New York to Ivan Quinton DePue and Arthell Patricia (Wilson) DePue. Jim grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School with the Class of 1973. In June of 1973, Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. Following his military service, Jim attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. On June 14, 2008, he married Sherri Roland at the Pittsburg Baptist Church. He served several terms as the Mayor of Pittsburg and retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 21 years. His last post before retiring in 2011 was the Postmaster of the Pittsburg Post Office. Jim was a "jack of all trades" and enjoyed fixing and working on cars and trucks and riding his Harley. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim will mostly be remembered for being a loving husband, father and pop. He leaves behind his wife, Sherri DePue of the home; sons, Aaron DePue of Tahlequah, Wes DePue and wife, Shonda of Eufaula, Brian Linley and wife, Valerie of Midwest City and John Linley of Jones; daughter, Nita Onstott and husband, James of Midwest City; 19 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one nephew, Quinton John Ehler of Las Vegas, NV and other family and a host of friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sharon Gruwell. Viewing hours will be Thursday, 10-8 and Friday 9-8. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6-8 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Pittsburg Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Morrow officiating. Interment will follow at Pittsburg Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Aaron DePue, Wes DePue, Brian Linley, John Linley, George Mote and David Lowder. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ed Hunter, John Johnson, Blaine Wilson, Mateo Herron, and Michael McMillian.
