Ronald Butler Gates

June 3, 1947 ~ August 10, 2014

Ronald Gates, 67, of Poteau, died Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Crowson officiating. Interment will be at Blanco Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Ronald Butler Gates was born June 3, 1947 in Miami, the son of Daniel John & Billie Leah Engleman Gates. He graduated from Savanna High School in the class of 1965.

He worked for the State of Oklahoma as an appeals judge for the employment office before transferring to Poteau where he worked as the office manager until his retirement in 2007.

Ronald married Nan Stanton Corder on May 20, 1980 in McAlester, Oklahoma.

He was a member of the Gold Wing Touring Association and also was the chaplain of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife: Nan Gates of the home; daughter: Tammy Gates Lehmberg & husband, Lindy of Midwest City; son: Dean Gates of Choctaw; granddaughter: Hillarie Lehmberg of Midwest City; stepson: Wes Corder & wife, Debra of McAlester; step-grandchildren: Tyler Corder, Taylor Corder, Tanner Corder, all of McAlester.

Also, mother: Billie Mullins and husband, A.L. of McAlester; sisters: Danna Lewis of Savanna, Linda Maynor of Savanna; brother: Bill Gates & wife, Doris of Savanna; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father: Dan Gates, grandparents: Simon & Lela Engleman, and two granddaughters: Heather Lehmberg and Khayle Lehmberg.

Pallbearers will be Larry Lame, Randy Bigelow, Greg Armstrong, Randy Wilson, Gary Teurman, and Phil Hedgeson.
