David "Shane" Anderson

David Shane Anderson, 24, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Stillwater Medical Center.

Services, with Dr. William Inglish presiding, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is directing the arrangements.

He was born Feb. 14, 1977, to Beverly Anderson. He was known to everyone as Shane. He was raised his entire life in Stillwater by his mother. His contagious smile and good nature led to hundreds of friendships.

He loved country music, movies and stand-up comedy. Some of his happiest times were spent with his mother and Aunt Kelli at country music concerts and the comedy clubs with his brother, Sean.

Some of his proudest moments came as a 14 year athlete in the Oklahoma Special Olympics where he won numerous medals and made lasting friendships.

The one thing Shane was most proud of was his academic career at Stillwater High School.

His performance of Garth Brooks, "The River," in the school's talent show was breathtaking and inspirational to all who attended. That performance, backed by the guitar of peer advocate Stoney Phillips-LaRue, was credited with encouraging many students to become peer advocates at SHS.

The standing ovation as Shane walked across the stage to accept his diploma in May, 1998, was an extraordinary memory that Shane and all who knew him would cherish forever.

Another big highlight in Shane's life was his graduation party at his cousin, Debbie's house. Almost everyone attended and it was one of Shane's dearest memories.

Shane would want everyone reading this to know he was 24 years old, very much a man, a high school graduate and he loved his momma, his family and all his friends.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and a lobby attendant at Stillwater restaurants.

He was predeceased by several great-aunts and uncles and one cousin.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Sean Allen Anderson and his wife Irene; maternal grandparents, Roy and Edith Anderson; his aunt, Kelli Anderson; Uncle Keith L. Anderson; and two nieces, Amber and Courtney Anderson, all of Stillwater; an aunt and uncle, Sig and Jean Hill of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Pallbearers will be Dale Sharpton, Tony Dale Reeves, Doug Sharpton, Rick Sharpton, Rick Hadley and Russell Kittle. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Blair, Gale Hadley, Sig Hill and Troy Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Family Fund, C/O Strode Funeral Home, P.O. Box 487, Stillwater, OK 74076.
