Robert Eugene Vickers, retired employee of Oklahoma State University, passed away on Thursday morning, November 9, 2006 at his residence southwest of Yale, at the age of 79 years.

The son of the late Eddie J. Vickers and Nora Ellen Rains Vickers, Robert was born on December 26, 1926 on an oil lease south-east of Oilton and was reared and educated in the Oilton and Drumright area.

Before he had a chance to graduate from high school he was drafted into the United States Army in 1945 and after two years in the Army he was honorably discharged and returned to Oklahoma where for the next few years he worked at various jobs.

During this time he married Thelma McKnight and to this union one son, Randall was born. Thelma preceded him in death in 1961.

In 1960 Robert went to work with the physical plant at Oklahoma State University as a mechanic in the maintenance department. He retired in 1990.

For a while until disabled by a stroke in 1998, he maintained a fruit orchard and vegetable garden and sold produce from his pickup, usually at the highways 18 and 51 junction.

Robert enjoyed fishing and watching baseball games on TV.

Surviving include his son Randall of the home in Yale; one sister Daisie Adams of Oilton, OK; one brother James Vickers of Lehigh Acres, FL; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 2 P.M. in the Davis Yale Chapel in Yale with Reverend Larry Eslinger officiating.

Serving as casket bearers will be Keith Downing, Al Martin, Jerry Adams, Bill Fulkerson, Larry Morris and Dan Simenton.

Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery at Perkins.
