TUESDAY FUNERAL SET FOR ELMER BUFFINGTON

Elmer Asa Buffington longtime resident of Stillwater and former custodian of the Stillwater Public Library, died Saturday August 11, 1979. He was 91 years old.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Strode Chapel, with the Rev. Eulis Grisham officiating. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Buffington formerly lived at 414. East 13th and died at a Stillwater Nursing Center.

Buffington was born June 21, 1888 in Stonington, Illinois the son of Lewis Lincoln and Anna Bell Buffington. He came to Stillwater with his parents in 1890, and the family later moved to a homestead near Sumner, where he spent most of his childhood.

He married Sarah Ann Goggin in Guthrie, Oklahoma on April 12, 1911. The couple lived of a farm near Wellston until 1936, when they moved to a farm southwest of Stillwater. They moved to Stillwater in 1945 and he worked for the City park departments. He was the custodian at the Library until his retirement in 1970.

He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were three sisters and one brother. He is survived by the wife of the home, four sons and one daughter, His sons are Alvin M. Buffington of Seattle, Washington, Elmer Dale Buffington of Roswell, New Mexico, John Lewis Buffington of Wichita, Kansas, and Robert Gene Buffington of McAlester, Oklahoma, and a daughter Mrs. Alberta Arwine, Bethany, Oklahoma.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. His brother Ralph Buffington of Perry, Oklahoma, and Charles Buffington of Parsons, Kansas, and his sister Esther Bowers of Deland, Florida.
