Benjamin Paul Craig
February 10, 1908 ~ February 26, 2008

Benjamin Paul Craig "Ben Craig or B.P. Craig", the fourth of 13 children, was born at home near Ripley Feb. 10, 1908, to William Augustus "Gus" and Etta Myrtle Beckett Craig. He died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, in St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

Ben was raised to love and fear God. At a very early age, he turned his heart and life over to God. As a result, he served God and His church to the best of his ability everywhere he lived. He was an ambassador for Christ.

Ben worked for the Department of Agriculture for 36 1/2 years after graduating from Oklahoma A & M. He was instrumental in organizing OKASCOE and NASCOE and served as president of the OKASCOE for a time. He and his family moved all over the state of Oklahoma during his career.

He was well known in the work arena, church associations and Gideons International, having served many positions of leadership in them. Ben had the reputation of being a faithful and hard worker. He never met a stranger, they were just a friend yet to be known.

Many have described Ben as a giant of a man, not only in stature, but in heart and spirit. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. In his younger life, he would drive miles to see a ball game or spend time with friends and family. He always enjoyed a good laugh, but at the same time he was serious about his relationship with his Lord and Savior and his family and friends. He loved to hunt and fish, and several years you would find him in the "deer woods" on Thanksgiving or at a pond in the cool of the evening trying to catch "the big one."

Ben met Mary Alice Huff and married her July 9, 1930, near Glencoe. After almost 72 years, Ben lost his life's mate. Since that time, his life was full of bumps, but he still persevered. He has been a blessing and great influence on those he met in his everyday life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two children, William Paul and Evelyn Lucille Craig, four sisters and five brothers.

Ben is survived by three children, Margaret Caskey, John Craig and wife, Nadine and Ruth Haste and husband, Larry; 10 grandchildren, Janet McGowen, Brenda Radke, Steve Caskey, Linda Callen, Paul Craig, Gary Craig, Eddie Craig, Vicki Milner, Freeman Haste and Ben Haste; 20 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, a sister, Lucille McCarthy; two brothers, Cecil Craig and wife, Ruth and Lloyd Craig and wife, Katie; many nieces and nephews and friends.

Family members will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Stillwater in Strode Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater with Ross Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214 or online at https://www.gideons.org/payment/donationsmemorial.asp.
