Wayne L. Rhoads

rhoads-w-l

January 3, 1941 ~ August 18, 2023

Wayne L. Rhoads, 82, left this world on Friday morning, August 18, 2023 at his home in rural Fairfax. He was surrounded by his loved ones.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the Fairfax City Cemetery with Pastor Russ Hughes officiating. Viewing will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday the 22nd at Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home Chapel.

Wayne Leroy was born in Pearsonia, Oklahoma near Foraker, on January 3, 1941 to Roy Clifton Rhoads and Floy Bernice (Wann) Rhoads. He attended Fairfax schools and graduated with the Red Devil Class of 1959. Wayne then went on to NOC in Tonkawa and in 1962 enlisted in the National Guard.

He married Judi Schmid and out of this union they were blessed with two sons, Mike and Bobby. In 1963 Wayne started his career at Conoco in the refinery. After 29 years he retired to the family farm to his lifelong love of farming and ranching. Wayne met the love of his life and partner of more than 45 years Wanda Sherwin. She took excellent care of him and stayed by his side until the very end.

Like his father, Wayne was a rancher and loved his cattle and his chihuahuas. He thoroughly enjoyed working with cattle, visiting his Fairfax friends, playing cards and reading a good book.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: Mike (Tracy) Rhoads and son Bob (Kendal) Rhoads; grandsons Taylor(Tayler) Rhoads and Caleb (Taylor) Rhoads; great grandson Greyson Rhoads; great granddaughter Payton Rhoads; and loving companion Wanda Sherwin plus extended family: Pat (Wade) Lucas, Tina (Danny) Imhofe, Chris (Christina) Sherwin, Sonny (Michelle) Sherwin and Debbie Hunt. Further survived by countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Floy.

Thanks to the staff at Walker Companion Home Health & Hospice of Cushing, Okla., especially Crystal his nurse for their wonderful care.

Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or the Fairfax Public Library, 158 E. Elm, Fairfax OK 74637.
