Jim Potter Morris age 82, passed away October 14th, 2005 inTulsa,OK. He was born March 8, 1923 in Lindale, Texas to James H. and Frances Elizabeth Potter Morris. He was married to Evon Williams of Fairbury, NE on October 15th 1944 while serving in the Air Force during WWII. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jessie Lee Morris. He is survived by his wife Evon of the home, a son Dennis Steven Morris of Oklahoma City, a daughter Karen Ann Dickinson and her husband James of Cape May, NJ. Three grandchildren; Kellie Ann Dickinson of San Diego, CA, Mrs. Courtney Reynolds and husband Keith and James D. Dickinson III of Cape May NJ
Jim Attended college in Dallas, TX and was employed at the First National Bank in Dallas prior to entering the Air Force in December 1942 and was discharged in 1946. While in the Air Force he was honored to have been chosen in 1945 to be the personal secretary to Col. Paul Tibbits who was at the time base commander at Windover Field, Utah. Col. Tibbets was organizing the 509th (B29) Atomic Bomb Group and flew the Enola Gay that dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan. When discharged in 1946 Evon and Jim made their home in Dallas, TX where he was Chief of Prosthetic with the VA Hospital in Dallas for several years. He worked for Sears a short time and was transferred to Oklahoma City in 1953. In 1955 he joined Robertson Factories Inc a national textile company and a primary source for Sears. He was factory manager for 12 years in Oklahoma City, prior to being Vice President of National sales. Jim started his own company in Henryetta, OK in 1975-Fashion Craft Industries, which operated until 1989. Jim was made honorary Colonel on the Oklahoma Governor’s staff in 1955 and was appointed to the Oklahoma Community advisory council with the S.B.A. in 1970. He served as director of the Henryetta Credit Union and a member of the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Henryetta.
Memorial service will be held at 2:30 Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Marion officiating. Services under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
