Wyvona Lee (McIntosh) Evans, 80, the oldest resident of Tiger Mountain Community, near Checotah, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 2, 1927 at Richardville to Rev. John D. (Cap) and Velva (Richard) McIntosh.She was a retired caregiver, housekeeper and crafts coordinator for Checotah Indian Community. She taught arts and crafts through Creek Nation vocational programs and was well known as a cook of traditional Indian recipes.
She was a member of Sliver Springs Baptist Church and a very active member of the Checotah Indian Community. She enjoyed participating in all activities involving her church or grandchildren. She'll be remembered for the smile she always had on her face. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Abe, Pete and David McIntosh; two infant sisters; one sister-in-law, Stella McIntosh; and one nephew.
Survivors include Roy Evans of the home; a brother, Richard of the home; one son, Casey McIntosh and wife Shirley of Dewar; one daughter, Lou Ann McIntosh Smith and husband Dickey of Wildcat Junction; two brothers, Joe (Spook) McIntosh of Checotah and Ledtkey Mdntosh and wife Beverly of Atlanta, Georgia; a spedal sister-in-law, Delores McIntosh; eight grandchildren, Rebel, Robin, Daniel, Chuck, and Joe McIntosh, Jody, Jill and Jace Smith; eleven great¬grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and twenty-six nieces and nephews that she thought of as her grandchildren.Pallbearers are the men of Silver Springs Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons.
A wake service will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta with Jesse Bible and Matthew McIntosh officiating.
Funeral services are at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Silver Springs Baptist Church with AJ. Tiger and Dennis Bible officiating. Interment will follow in the Silver Springs Cemetery at Tiger Mountain under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.
