Ann Arbor, Mich - Margaret Chaffin Barney died of natural causes Dec. 10, 2005, just a few hours short of her 88th birthday.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Leslie A. Chaffin and Florence
(Shoemaker) Chaffin, a graduate of Anadarko High School, she spent the
majority of her adult life in Anadarko, Oklahoma, the wife of Oris L.
Barney, who died March 20, 1967.
After living a few years in Oklahoma City, she moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., where she had resided since 1991.
She was a member of PEO in Ann Arbor and in Anadarko where she was
president of her local chapter and treasurer of the State of Oklahoma PEO. She was also an active member of the First Christian Church of Anadarko.
She was the mother of Jan Barney Newman, Ann Arbor, and Dr. Jonne Barney Walter of Atlanta, Ga. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Dr. O. Christopher Newman of Saline, Mich., Nicholas Newman of Larchmont, N.Y., Timothy Newman of Jersey City, N.J., Matthew Newman of Newcastle, Maine, Alison Walter Kyle of Decatur, Ga., Andrew Walter of Atlanta, and three great-grandchildren, Aaron Newman of Saline, and Anna and Bennett Newman of Larchmont.

A memorial service in Anadarko will take place in late May. The specific time and place will be announced later.
