Marcus Lafayette Sanders
Services for Mark Lafayette "Fate" Sanders, retired peace officer and '89er, who became the city's first traffic fatality of 1940 Monday night, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Christian church at Luther.

Sanders, 79 years old and a native of Ellis County, Texas, became a cowboy in his youth and made the run of 1889, settling near Meridian. He married Rosa Etta Atteberry, who died about 40 years ago.

Injuries suffered when struck by a car last Sunday at Northwest Second Street and Walker Avenue resulted in his death.

Survivors are three children, Mrs. Renne P. Kuntz, 426 1/2 Northwest Second Street, with whom he lived; Miss Stella Sanders, Norman, member of the University of Oklahoma faculty, and Hardin Atteberry Sanders, 509 Southwest Twenty-ninth street; a brother, Jeff M. Sanders and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Jane Rabe, Wills Point, Texas and Mrs. Amanda Cox, Mineral Wells, Texas.
