STRINGER Leveta Louise "Effie" Stringer, 81, recently of Overland Park, Kansas, and formerly of Oklahoma City, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2000, in Overland Park, Kansas, after complications from surgery.
Leveta was born June 26, 1918, in Atkins, Arkansas, the second daughter and fifth of eight children of Omer Babylon and Alpha Omega (Webb) Peak. She was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, and married Lieutenant Paris Glenn Stringer, also of Oklahoma City, on February 24,1940, in Norman, Oklahoma. She was employed as a transfer clerk with Civil Service and worked at Tinker Air Force Base until she moved to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, to be with her husband. They later returned to Oklahoma City, and Leveta contributed over one thousand hours to Baptist Hospital and other voluntary services. She and her immediate family were also members of Leawood Baptist Church in Leawood, Kansas, and Putnam City Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her six brothers and her husband. She is survived by her sister, Lenora Scott of Oklahoma City, her daughter, Loretta Deane Wood, her son-in-law, Warren Brent Wood, and her two grandsons, Garrett Davis Wood and Cullen David Wood, all of Olathe, Kansas.
Leveta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was admired by all her friends. The family suggests memorials to Putnam City Baptist Church, 11401 N. Rockwell, OKC, OK 73162.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24, at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Oklahoma City, with Rev. Max Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
