Elliott L. Duerksen of Guthrie, OK, known as "Slim" or "Grandpa Slim" by his friends and family, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, July 25, 2011. He was born December 12, 1924 in Corn, OK to Pete R. and Helen (Harder) Duerksen.
Elliott is preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Nadine Mitchell Speer Duerksen, his brother and his wife Elmer and Beatrice Duerksen, two grandsons Shawn and Justin Duerksen, and one step-daughter Barbara Cantrell.
He is survived by two sons and their wives Ron and Andrea Duerksen of Coweta, OK and Dennis and Brenda Duerksen of Haysville, KS; two step-sons James Speer of Texas and Charlie Speer of Tucson, AZ; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchlidren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He retired from Wiley Manufacturing as a sheet metal fabricator.
Elliott was a charter member of Logan County Trail riders. He loved riding. One of his favorite things was to team pen with his friends and especially with his son, Dennis and granddaughter Dawn.
He had a passion for writing cowboy poetry. His poems reflected the full life he lived.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2011 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be Thursday, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving guests, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
